Heat pump installation

HEAT PUMP GUIDE

Heat pump installation guide

Step by step: How to install an air source heat pump?

Installing an air source heat pump is a relatively simple process compared to, for example, geothermal or geothermal heating. Installing an air-to-air heat pump is the easiest and takes the shortest time. Air-to-water heat pumps and exhaust air heat pumps require more work and depend a lot on your conditions.

Air to air heat pump

The indoor unit of the air source heat pump should be placed high on the wall and centrally in the home. It is usually installed in the largest room in the house, as the air spreads easily from here to the rest of the house. It is important that the air source heat pump is placed without any nearby obstacles to the airflow. It is also good to consider that the outdoor unit is as close to the indoor unit as possible.

Air-to-water heat pump

This type is significantly more advanced to install.

  1. Dismantling of the old heating system.
  2. Preparation of the electrical installation.
  3. Drilling holes in the wall for the wires.
  4. Installation of the heat pump inside the house.
  5. Installation of the heat pump's outdoor unit.
  6. Turning on the electricity.
  7. Filling the system with water and venting.
  8. Checking the system.
  9. Then just honk and drive and save money.

Exhaust air heating

The installation of an exhaust air heat pump is relatively simple compared to, for example, a ground source heat pump or geothermal heating system. You do not need to drill or dig. The heat pump is installed in a boiler room, utility room or in a suitable location.

It is necessary to draw a duct from the home's exhaust ventilation system. This is where the heat pump draws in the air needed to extract energy.

The heat pump must also be connected to the house's heating and hot water system. It should also be connected to the electricity grid, as the heat pump is powered by electricity.

Standard installation of air source heat pumps

A standard installation of an air-to-air heat pump varies in cost from around SEK 7,000 when Airmove installs your air heat pump including:

  • Pipes, plastic channels and wall bracket with vibration dampers.
  • Outdoor area max. 1.5 meters above ground level.
  • The inner part at least 5-10 cm from the ceiling.
  • 1 hole in wood.
  • Heat pump test and instructions to the customer.
  • Rough cleaning and removal of packaging.
  • Sealing the wall with latex sealant or joint foam.
  • Dismantling of the existing air-to-air heat pump.

How long does it take to install an air source heat pump?

An air-to-air heat pump takes between 3 and 8 hours, depending on the conditions. On average, installation takes about 6 hours.

An air-to-water heat pump takes 1-2 days to install, depending on how complex the installation is.
