How can I improve the ventilation in my bedroom?

Poor ventilation in the bedroom

Today, many houses are airtight and energy-efficient. Newly built houses are required to have functional ventilation. But in renovated older houses, there are no such requirements, and ventilation is often forgotten, which means that we get too little air for the ventilation to be sufficient. Poor ventilation in the bedroom results in dry and stale air. In addition to a stale smell and feeling in the bedroom, poor ventilation can lead to poorer sleep, headaches, and dry mucous membranes.

Improve ventilation in the bedroom

If you don't have a mechanical ventilation system, in most cases, you have what is called natural ventilation. In a house with natural ventilation, a rule of thumb is that clean and fresh air should enter all rooms except the kitchen and bathroom. This means that fresh air vents should be installed in the bedroom to ensure an influx of fresh air. For ventilation to work, the used air needs to be extracted from the house.

Air is extracted in the bathroom via a bathroom fan and in the kitchen via the kitchen fan. A common mistake is that the bathroom fan is only active after showering or when the bathroom light is on. For optimal ventilation in a house with natural ventilation, the bathroom fan should run constantly to continuously replace the used air with new and fresh air.
