A functioning ventilation is based on fresh air being led into the house and used air being led out of the house. Self-drafting is the oldest type of ventilation available and was used until the 1970s.
Self-ventilation - this is how it works
A functioning ventilation is based on fresh air being led into the house and used air being led out of the house. Self-draft ventilation is based on warm air rising. In older houses, air enters the house through windows and walls that are not tight. The used air then exited through ventilation ducts in the chimney. Thanks to using the chimney and it being warm, the self-draft ventilation worked. When we then stopped burning the chimney at the same time as sealing our houses, the self-draft ventilation stopped working.
Improve natural ventilation
To solve the problems that many houses with self-draft ventilation have, there is a simple solution. Install fresh air vents in all rooms except the kitchen and bathroom. In the kitchen and bathroom, the used air must go out.
